One of the great advantages of fasting is the constant reminders. As you fast, you will notice that you habitually try to go back to your routine. The things that you are abstaining from during this fast would subtly creep back into your life, if not for the reminders.
Those simple reminders do two things for us. First, they are teaching us to listen to the quiet voice of God. Whenever lunch time rolls around and you are reminded that you can’t have *that* it is a resistance to temptation. Secondly, the reminders queue us to pray. Whenever you are tempted to have *that* take it as a prompt to pray for the thing you are fasting about.
Part of the discipline of fasting is awareness. Allow this heightened awareness to draw you closer to God. And if you haven’t prayed today, then take this post as a reminder to do so :)
